Mummy MOT

I am a certified Mummy MOT practitioner. The Mummy MOT is a specialist postnatal examination for women following both vaginal and caesarean deliveries. It’s not just an assessment; it’s a detailed discussion about your pregnancy, birth and your postpartum concerns

A Mummy MOT consultation includes:

  • A full postural screen
  • Pelvic floor muscle assessment
  • Abdominal muscle exam to check for any separation (diastasis rectus abdominis)
  • Screening for bladder, bowel or sexual dysfunction
  • Education and advice on activities such as lifting your baby or pushing a buggy.
  • A written report with my findings and recommendations with your goals and lifestyle factors in mind.

My aim is for you to walk out of your Mummy MOT feeling empowered with a plan that is specifically tailored for your recovery.

Fees

Mummy MOT consultation (75 minutes) – £120

Mummy MOT follow up (40 minutes)- £60

Frequently Asked Questions

What to expect

Please allow 75 minutes for a Mummy MOT consultation. I take a thorough case history which includes details of your pregnancy and birth, any concerns you have, past medical history (including any current medication), followed by a physical examination. I send my findings and recommendations to you by email in a written report.

When can I have a Mummy MOT?

A Mummy MOT is recommended after you have had your initial 8-week GP check, but Mummy MOT practitioners also treat women who gave birth years ago.

Can I bring my baby along?

Yes, of course. My clinic room is set up to accommodate babies and their needs.

What should I wear?

Please wear comfortable clothing that you can easily move around in. Gym wear or loose trousers are a good option.

What if I am still bleeding or have my period?

This does not impact my assessment however if you would feel more comfortable rearranging then please reschedule with 24hrs notice.

When will I get my report?

I will prepare a detailed written report which will be sent to you a few days after your session via email.

What about follow up or ongoing care?

At your Mummy MOT appointment we will discuss a rehab plan and go through the initial stages of this. Follow up appointments are booked as ‘Follow-up Osteopathy’ appointments which last for 30 to 40 minutes at the usual rate.

Kind Words

Karly has been invaluable in my recovery after the birth of my daughter in November. There are plenty of mandatory checks on your babies health (which is obviously brilliant) but I felt I was completely on my own in regards to my own health and recovery…until I booked my Mummy MOT with Karly. She made me feel completely at ease and offered some brilliant advice and guidance as to how I can recover from a particularly traumatic birth and work towards getting back to exercising safely. Would advise every new mum to book a Mummy MOT! And to book with Karly!

I would highly recommend a Mummy MOT with Karly. It was the most comprehensive assessment and advice session I’ve had. Karly spent time listening to how I was thinking and feeling. I felt totally at ease from the offset. She checked my posture, breathing, tummy and pelvic floor muscles. She then recommended the best exercises to do. Karly was supportive and encouraging throughout. She followed up with a detailed report covering her assessment and recommended next steps. I definitely have a long way to go with my recovery but with Karly’s help, I am definitely on the right path. Thank you so much!

I saw Karly for both a Mummy MOT and then for postnatal hip and back pain I was experiencing. Karly has a very warm and kind nature which instantly made me feel at ease. I felt she took time to really listen and tailor her treatment and advice specifically to my needs. She also really appreciates and understands how challenging motherhood can be and the toll it takes on your body. Best of all my hip pain completely went away after just one treatment! Thank you

I booked in to have a Mummy MOT with Karly and was really helped by the exercises and reassurance. Karly herself is a wonderfully kind and understanding practitioner with a huge amount of knowledge. I felt very safe and reassured and left with a plan to help ease some of my symptoms post birth. I highly recommend anyone who has had a baby to book themselves in for an appointment and Karly is the person you should see

I would highly recommend any mum to visit Karly. She is such a kind, caring professional who really listens to your needs and provides much needed support in your rehab post birth. The clear communication during appointments and follow up emails have really helped me to progress and feel strong again after childbirth. Karly has also helped provide me with a confidence boost which has gone a long way in helping me start to feel like me again. Will certainly be telling all my fellow mum friends about her fantastic service!

I went to see Karly for a Mummy MOT as I still had some concerns after the 6-week postpartum GP appointment. Karly was very thorough and took the time to address all my questions and concerns. She gave me a lot of practical advice in order for me to safely return to sports and other aspects of day-to-day life. She was really professional and caring and I recommend her services to all new mums. Thank you Karly!
